Dr Martin Luther King, dreamed of a day when his children would grow up in a country where they were not judge by the color of their skin , but by the content of their character. That’s what the first part of what “Be True” is about, it’s about cultivating inner qualities, knowing who you are inside and loving the person God created you to be.
We live in a society that discriminates not only on color, but on all other appearances: Weight, height, class, ethnic background…the list goes on. This can sometimes discourage your dream, if you weren’t born into a rich family or a place with lots of opportunities - it can make you feel as though there is no hope for rising above those circumstances. But Dr. Ben Carson is a testimony against the type of thinking ; he is a shining example of someone who beat the odds, thanks to a God-fearing mother who stressed the importance of reading, and learning. Eric Thomas is another example of someone who went from eating out of trash cans, and living in abandon buildings to earning a Ph.D in education. Nick Vujicic is yet another example of someone rose above his circumstances being born without arms and legs; but does more than some abled body people do now. He swims , golfs, write books, and is married with a child. The guy is productive with the gift God has given him, and didn’t live under his circumstance.
The way we see ourselves will play important role of the people we become. If we see ourselves as losers, then that’s what we will be. Our attitude truly will determine our latitude or how high we will go. That’s why in Be True I say “ Let them hate you” but they won’t break you , because if you love yourself, know who you are, and where you are going, then no can stop you , but you.
